That's why it's essential to take the time to plan ahead. Not only does it take the stress and anxiety out of the equation, but it also allows you to consistently deliver value to your audience.

So, how can you create a killer campaign calendar that keeps you ahead of the game? Let's dive in!

  1. Start by marking down important dates and events relevant to your business. These could include product launches, holidays, industry conferences, or specific milestones. Examples of these may be launches, sales, anniversaries, or collaborations.

  2. Then, work backward and reverse-engineer your content plan. Determine what information or knowledge your audience will need in advance to make those important dates count. This ensures a seamless flow of content that builds up to the key events. Pro-tip: If you are introducing a new product or service, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to educate your audience on what this product or service is and why it will help them BEFORE you launch.

  3. Don't forget to incorporate fun and relevant content around holidays, observance days, or industry trends. This helps you stay connected with your audience and keeps your content fresh and engaging. Googling “beauty industry national and international holidays” will make a great start. (A short word of advice - Don’t overdo it on the cute obscure holiday campaigns. Yes, they’re fun! But in moderation. We’d recommend no more than 6/year, so choose wisely!)

  4. Next, organize your content into categories or themes that resonate with your audience. Consider what types of content your ideal audience craves and create buckets accordingly. These could include educational pieces, entertaining content, inspiring stories, or even audience polls for engagement. If you feel stuck here, check out previous campaign analytics for insight on where your audience gravitates. If they responded well to last year’s Nordstrom Sale Flops post, consider making posts like Memorial Day Sale round-ups, Labor Day Pre-Sales you won’t want to miss, etc.

  5. And, of course, draw from YOUR wealth of knowledge and create content pillars that entertain, educate, and inspire your audience. These pillars are a consistent source of valuable information and make planning easier. Fill in the remaining dates in your calendar with topics that you feel your audience should know, you haven’t spoken on yet, or you feel will inspire them.
